Luka Modric: The Crotian General

Luka Modric (September 9, 1985)seems to be the hottest piece of property outside of the big feeder leagues (France, Holland etc). Modric is currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb, where he plays on the left side of their 4-2-3-1 formation. Mmmm, a 4-2-3-1 formation, who is currently playing in the formation...... Oh Liverpool. Good thing Modric has come out and admitted he would love to come and join us!! Sorry, sorry back to impartiality.

Modric is extremely versatile. He can play across the midfield due to his fantastic form on both feet. He has a great eye for positioning and can play box to box if needed. He has an accurate shot, high percentage passing rate and again great timing. He draws comparisons to Tomas Rosicky and is looking to move into the Premier League. He has been linked with everyone from Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and now Liverpool. Wenger was quoted as saying, "Croatians are very good, but very expensive as well". Wenger of course has the funds to spend (a £80m war chest anyone!!), but couldn't be more right. Dinamo are looking to cash in and cash in big and Chelsea would of course win any bidding war. Spurs are also on the move, meeting up with their Croatian counterparts on Tuesday in an effort to sneak the creative midfielder. Who will win out? The money (Chelsea), the dream (Liverpool) or the persistence (Spurs). I'm sure it will shift hands 75 times till the window opens.

Gerard Houllier believes that Arsenal are the favorites..

Houllier had this to say over the weekend, "I will always be a Liverpool fan for the rest of my life. There are still players there that I got started and connections to the team which we set up.

"But after the way Arsenal played in Milan, I think they are the favorites even if they are having a bit of trouble in the league. In Milan I saw a team which is focused, committed and above all else very talented.

"There are three things which make Arsene special. The first is that he is a hard worker blessed with a rare expertise, not just on football in general, but also on world football. In other words he is a hard worker, an expert and also takes a very active approach towards the psychology of his players.

"Every manager has his own philosophy. I know the philosophy of Arsene Wenger's game depends on speed, technique and movement."

Crouch on his way out?

Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has admitted that it looks like he will have to leave the club in the summer. Its being widely reported that he could be hooking back up with Harry Redknapp at Pompey for around £8m. Seems a bit low, but he only has a year and a half left on his contract so it would be a good piece of business.

"I'd love to stay, it's a fantastic club and I love everything about it, but I've got to be realistic", Crouch admitted on Saturday.

"If I want to have any aspirations of playing for England or furthering my career, then I have to be playing. And that doesn't seem to be the case at the moment. It can be disheartening and I'll have to look at it.

"What I will do, when called upon towards the end of this season, is give my best and then look at it in the summer.

"It's pretty clear I probably won't start on Tuesday, to be honest. I think obviously if the manager plays one up front he's more than likely to go with Fernando and rightly so, he's been fantastic this season.

"But for me, I have to work hard in training and, when given the opportunity, I have to do as well as I can."
